Don’t be afraid to ask for support
The past 5 months have given us all a great deal of time to think about the jobs we do, how we go about our roles and what can we do to improve our skillsets to secure more work in the future.
This has been a constant for me. I have always loved networking events, learning and finding out more about other people and businesses, but lockdown has meant I had to look at an online business network and for me that was LinkedIn.
I have spent time reading more what people are experiencing on a daily basis, the good and the bad. I have taken comfort from the fact we are all experiencing similar situations, and many are giving their time and support with no financial commitments to those who ask for it. There is so much good will and positivity out there – you just need to make contact and build up relationships with people who are willing to give their time in order to help you.
I’ve asked. I wanted to hear from experts in their field, to learn from them and I will continue to do so as we all share the same common goal – more normal levels of work that bring success and rewards to all those we work with and for.
The Social Media Manager and Strategist Simone Bonnett had shared a post saying if you want time with her to talk about social media issues and take steps to improve your ecommerce strategy, she would be happy to have a zoom call with you. So, I took her up on this and had an incredibly valuable half an hour with her – she was direct, gave great constructive comments and helped me to review and improve on areas I needed help with.
The Sales and Motivational Speaker Gavin Ingham offered business training that was half an hour in the morning, half an hour in the afternoon over a week to those who signed up to his webinar. He has developed the #Iam10 methodology which gives steps to help you improve all you do in every aspect of your life. It was excellent and gave me the boost I needed when the job that I love doing had reached the quietest of times and he helped me to regroup and refocus.
Robert Stanwyck, Founder of smartphone films put out a post to say that if you’ve recently been made redundant, he and his team would love to help you out for free.
Help and support is there, don’t be afraid to ask for it – contact people you admire, respect, reach out to them for guidance, the support they give could make big difference to you when navigating these difficult times.
Lastly, think about what you can give back to others. For me, I am more than happy to talk to you about your CV and give any advice I can on how to approach prospective employers. We are all in this together and if we can, we should give help and support to those who need it in this new world we all find ourselves in.
