Founder and Owner Prima Principia
What’s Happening in July with Craig Vidler, Founder and Owner Prima Principia
What attracted you to setting up your company?
Freedom – it was the freedom to be master of my own destiny, follow my own ambitions and have time to support my children whilst they were at school.
My career initially was in the retail sector and my first job in recruitment was at Star Agency and my brief was to develop a retail section which was so successful it grew into the largest in the UK placing executives with most of the leading retail organisations in this country and many overseas. This division traded as Star Executives. My present business, Prima Principia, was started in 1990 and was essentially a vehicle for raising money for acquisitions, buy-ins, and buy-outs and executive recruitment in the retail sector.
What gives you the most satisfaction in your job?
Being able to help others make positive career changes and raising monies for charity. For over 30 years I was involved with the Retail Trust, for 13 years as a Director and Trustee. Retail Trust is a national charity for the retail industry providing care homes for retired employees, a helpline and counselling service for employees and educational grants for younger retail workers. Through my business, I sponsored an Annual Fly Fishing Day which, over the years, has raised over £500,000 and in 2016 I received the Order of the British Empire (BEM) in Her Majesty’s New Year’s Honours List for services to charity.
What advice can you give to individuals looking for jobs right now?
Always be positive, believe in yourself and go for it! And remember the quote from Winston Churchill;
“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”
What are you most looking forward to most this year?
England winning the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019!
What music makes you feel most creative at work?
Abba. Always Abba.
What quote inspires you the most?
“For myself, I am an optimist—it does not seem to be much use being anything else.” Winston Churchill
