What’s Happening in July … with Laura Coleby, Director at 67degrees
What attracted you to setting up your company?
Running my own business was always something I wanted to do. From the flexibility it offers me to spend time with my family to the personal fulfillment it gives me every day knowing I am doing something I love. Someone once said to me that “if you are not getting up excited about going to work, then you are in the wrong job”. At the time I thought that being excited about going to work every day was impossible. I now absolutely know what he meant.
What gives you the most satisfaction in your job?
Seeing how much of a difference we can make to other businesses. Not only can we see the difference by analysing the data but we can feel the difference by speaking and seeing our clients on a regular basis. Seeing another 5 star review coming in via Google or Facebook makes all the hard work worth while.
What advice can you give to individuals looking for jobs right now?
Be passionate, do your research and dare to be different. Having spent a significant amount of time in my career going through CV’s and interviewing people, you see the same information time and tome again. Similar CV templates, similar covering letters, similar key skills and text used. Its important to think outside the box, be different.
A friend of mine was looking for a new job and in doing his research he discovered that on the employers website, the staff pictures were pictures of when they were children. So he decided to send them 12 cupcakes ahead of an interview he had. On 11 of the cupcakes he had the pictures of the 11 staff members currently working for the company and on the 12th cupcake he put his picture (bottom let of the image). He was going for a creative marketing role. Needless to say, he got the interview and got the job.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
Pushing the boundaries of innovation and winning even more awards (fingers crossed on the latter!)
What’s your favourite brand?
Its got to be Apple. There are so many brands out there that I look to however Apple are on another level. The experience you receive from the minute you walk into any Apple store to the way they launch new products is something to be admired. A very inspiring brand.
What music makes you feel most creative at work?
I love music and really like all genres. I would normally head to Spotify and put on a play list, depending on whats on my to do list in front of me! At the moment my go to playlists are Butter, Have a Great Day and Thowback Thursday.
What quote inspires you the most?
“Do it with passion or not at all”
